The fabric is a teeny, tiny bit thicker than quilter's cotton (they call it lightweight 100% cotton canvas) but it's still soft enough to use as a blanket if you choose, but also stays flat for plenty of play time. Great take-along size -- just roll it up and stuff it into it's own coordinating bag that's included. And if your little one is too little to play with cars, this makes a great "tummy time" mat with lots of bright things to see and feel!

It might be hard to see from the photos (see the closeups) but I have quilted around nearly every single outline, to make sure this mat stays soft, but more importantly, stays together. I wanted to quilt AROUND each item, so all those quilting lines wouldn't interfere with play. This is also great to play with a sibling or friend as each side of the mat/quilt is oriented toward the "driver" so no one has to play upside down. :)

The back is a deep grey with all kinds of road signs and the binding is in the yellow "caution tape" that coordinates with the front. 100% cotton inside and out. Bright, colorful and fun! Matches my On the Go quilt and car seat / stroller quilt. Handmade coordinating binding, doubled for extra strength.
