Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT GOES INTO MAKING A QUILT?

Let me tell you a little bit about what it takes to put a quilt together. The materials alone are a significant portion of the total cost. Depending on the details, it takes up to 40 hours or more to make each quilt. From cutting out the fabric, piecing (sewing) it together, making sure all the seams match (yes I AM a perfectionist), all that ironing, preparing the backing -- more ironing, the hours it takes just to cut the dangling threads to prepare it for quilting (cotton fabric naturally frays like mad!), and then making sure every single wrinkle is out before I can quilt it (that's a lot of ironing), preparing the batting (that's the soft layer inside for warmth), and actually quilting the quilt (putting it all together), which can take a considerable amount of time. After it is quilted, it takes time to square it up, make the binding (that's the pretty edging), attach the binding and then machine sew or hand sew to finish off the binding. I do not use store bought (pre-made) binding. I make all of my own to coordinate with each quilt. All of these steps take a great deal of time and patience. I tell you this so that you know you cannot compare a quilt you might purchase in a department or big box store to what ANY quilter makes. You will immediately see and feel the difference. I am spending my time making baby quilts for your someone special to love. You can't put a price tag on that!

WHERE DO WE GET YOUR MATERIALS?

I purchase all of my fabrics from small, independently owned quilting shops in the USA using only premium quilting fabrics and materials. I do not purchase my materials from big craft/fabric chain stores or big box stores (not that there's anything wrong with that), but there is truly a big difference in the quality and the feel of the fabric. I also think it is very important to support small businesses right here in the USA and I like to think that I'm doing my part. In purchasing a handmade quilt from me, we are all paying it forward and for that I thank you for helping many small USA mom and pop shops!

LOOSE THREADS

When making quilts, there are a gazillion threads involved. I do my best to make sure all loose threads are cut, but once in awhile (or with use and washings), some of those little buggers might sneak out. It is always best to CUT these threads. Do not pull them out.

SCREEN COLORS

Actual quilt and fabric colors may slightly differ from how they appear on screen.
